Students are Naïve
The IELTS or PTE students are not aware of the ‘Thesis Statement’. Simply put, it means, take one side, i.e., either strongly agree or strongly disagree. The students mostly say ‘it depends’; however, that is the main reason their Essay Writing score is lower than expected. The IELTS or PTE examiners also expect that students argue after selecting one side. It shows how confident the student is in arguing for or against.
Students Do Not Choose One Side
Apart from a mandatory condition, the benefit of strongly supporting one side (i.e., agree or disagree not both) is that your thoughts become naturally aligned. You feel much comfortable in producing the relevant reasons and justifying with the help of explanation and examples. Your Writing becomes clearer and all the ideas automatically interconnect. Again, if you want to write a clear, concise, coherent, and concrete essay; always take one side.
Students have Limited Knowledge
The challenge is that after choosing one side; students run out of supporting ideas or explanation or example. Students should produce at-least two main supporting points. They issue is, they can produce one strong reason, but it is hard for them to find another good reason. I as an IELTS and PTE Trainer can train you in this regard after letting you complete good number of exercises and filtering out the learning points to polish in later sessions.
Students Apply Standard Essay Structure
Moreover, students think that there is one standard structure to approach all the IELTS or PTE essays. That is again untrue. There are at-least 7 different types of essays; however, the variety in PTE essays is far less than IELTS. Also, PTE essays are quite repetitive, but IELTS essays are not. In addition to this, the marking of IELTS Academic Essays if tougher than IELTS General or PTE Academic.
Solution is Students’ Focused Lesson Plans
In my IELTS or PTE Training Sessions, I treat each student differently after ONE-HOUR FREE TEST DRIVE SESSION, to develop, test and modify lesson plans just according to the needs of that student. Each learner learns in a different way and my IELTS or PTE lesson plans must justify that. In my sessions, students’ feedback is the most import part in making the lessons plans as useful as possible especially in Essay Writing.
Benefits of One-to-One Classes
These IELTS or PTE Tutoring classes are mostly One-to-One, but group option is also available on request. The benefit of One-to-One class is that students get maximum attention from their tutor. They openly share their problems especially if they feel embarrassed in discussing such issues in front of other students either from their own or a different cultural background. They get ideas from the tutor, mix or change according to their own way of thinking, and write in their own way and become a true author of their Writing. It boosts their motivation and interest and mostly students show initiative in asking for more essays with a higher level of difficulty which rewards the tutor in engaging students at that level. I enjoy identifying the needs and wants of the students, provide simplified solutions whilst appreciating their creativity in producing strong reasons with realistic examples extracted from their own backgrounds. They start producing convincing tone in their written communication and average students reach at that standard within 25 hours.
